Getting started with CDSEO is quick and easy. Follow these steps to install and configure the app for your Shopify store.
Installing from the Shopify App Store
- Visit the CDSEO listing in the Shopify App Store
- Click Add app
- Review the permissions and click Install app
Permissions
CDSEO requires the following permissions to optimize your store:
- Products - Read and update product titles, descriptions, and meta information
- Content - Read and update pages, articles, and blog content
- Themes - Add structured data and verification codes to your theme
- Files - Optimize and manage images
- Navigation - Identify menu-linked collections for prioritization
- Markets - Support multi-market stores
Enabling the App Embed Block
After installation, you need to enable the CDSEO App Embed Block in your theme. This allows CDSEO to add structured data and verification codes to your storefront.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Click the Theme Editor button when prompted (or go to Online Store > Themes > Customize)
- In the Theme Editor, the CDSEO App Embed Block will be automatically enabled
- Click the Save button at the top right of the Theme Editor to confirm the changes
- Return to CDSEO and click Recheck to verify
This message will no longer appear once the App Embed Block has been successfully enabled.
Initial Sync
After installation, CDSEO automatically syncs your store data:
- Products - All product titles, descriptions, and meta information
- Collections - Collection pages and their meta data
- Pages - Static pages and their content
- Articles - Blog posts and their meta information
- Navigation - Menu structure to identify key collections
The initial sync may take a few minutes depending on the size of your store. You can start using CDSEO immediately while the sync completes in the background.
Content Module Setup
Adding Content to Your Theme
To display CDSEO content on your pages, add the CDSEO Content app block through the Theme Editor:
Go to Online Store > Themes > Customize in Shopify
Navigate to the page template where you want content to appear (e.g., Products, Collections)
Click Add section or Add block
Select the CDSEO Content app block
Drag the block to position it where you want the content to display
Click Save
Repeat for each page type where you want CDSEO content to appear: Products, Collections, Articles & Pages
Content Storage
Content created in CDSEO is stored in Shopify metafields:
cdseo.content- The rendered HTML contentcdseo.content_json- The structured content data
This ensures your content remains in Shopify even if you uninstall CDSEO.
Installation for P1 Commerce
If working with P1 Commerce, you will likely be asked to install CDSEO as a custom app which will provide you additional features and functionality, such as SEO and AEO organic revenue correlation, rank tracking and engagement metrics.
Step 1: Create a Custom App
In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Apps
Click Develop apps (you may need to enable development apps first)
Click Create an app
Name it CDSEO: SEO for the AI Era and click Create app
Step 2: Configure API Scopes
Click Configure Admin API scopes and select the following:
write_contentwrite_fileswrite_productswrite_themesread_publicationswrite_publicationsread_online_store_navigationread_orders(for revenue attribution)
Click Save, then click Install app.
Step 3: Get Credentials and Contact P1
After installing:
- Go to the API credentials tab
- Copy the API key
- Copy the API secret key (starts with
shpss_) - Click Reveal token once and copy the Admin API access token (starts with
shpat_)
Provide P1 with these credentials:
- API key
- API secret key (
shpss_) - Admin API access token (
shpat_)
